November 2020

I used six ingredients with Six Sisters' Stuff

Page 12
Ground Beef Enchilada Casserole
This was an easy recipe, not expensive and taste was NOTHING SPECIAL.
I would have given it an UGH but parts of it were okay. I would leave out the corn tortillas altogether, cook the beans and meat together (maybe add a can of chopped green chili's) and put the mixture in a taco shell with shredded lettuce etc.

Page 183
Cake Mix M&M's Cookies
An easy recipe, not expensive and taste was VERY GOOD

Page 158
Parmesan Orzo
An easy recipe again, not expensive and taste was GOOD.
I suggest you use unsalted butter and low sodium broth.  To me this recipe was a bit to salty.

I will use this cookbook again.

This months cookbook isWanda Brunstetter's
Amish Friends Farmhouse Favorites Cookbook

Page 98
Juicy Meatloaf
Easy recipe to follow, not expensive and taste was WOW for me.  This recipe was not full of spices, just a great recipe for meatloaf paired with mashed potatoes.

Page 76
Oven Fried Potatoes
Easy, not expensive and taste was Very Good.
Just watch the salt, mine was to salty.

Page 122
Green Tomato Cake
Easy, not expensive and taste was Nothing Special
This might appeal to some people, just not me.

Page 127
Cream Cheese Flitzers
Easy, not expensive and taste was Nothing Special
I wanted more spice in the filling, otherwise an easy quick recipe for drop-in guests to enjoy

Page 116
White Chili Soup
Easy, not expensive and taste was WOW
This was absolutely delicious and hubby even said so and that means it was really, really good.

This month I used Cooking At Home With Bridget & Julia

Page65
Classic Chicken and Rice with Carrots and Peas
This recipe was easy to follow, not expensive to make and taste was GOOD but very ordinary.  I wanted more spice.

Page 11
Muffin Tin Doughnuts
This recipe was easy to follow, not expensive and taste was GOOD however it did not taste like a doughnut to me, just an ordinary muffin with sugar and cinnamon on top.

Page 211
Eclair Cake
This recipe was easy to follow and a bit expensive to make.  The taste was hard to describe.  The chocolate topping was not to my liking and I love chocolate and the rest of it was okay but again I wanted more flavor.

I would recommend this cookbook to a new to cooking person, excellent to get them started.

This month I used Magnolia  Table

Page 177
Potato Salad
Easy to make, not expensive and taste was VERY GOOD
My hubby even liked it!

Page 217
Chicken Fried Steak
Easy to make, not expensive and taste was NOTHING SPECIAL
A simple common recipe that everybody probably has.

Page313
Chewy Granola Bars
Easy to make, not expensive for the amount of bars you get and taste was VERY GOOD but very sticky.

 July 31, 2020

This month I used Dinner For Two cookbook.

On Page 142- Deconstructed Sausage, Egg and Cheese Biscuit

This was easy to make, not expensive and taste was NOTHING SPECIAL.

This needed sausage gravy or something to get rid of the total dryness.

On page 157- Loaded Taco Tots

This was easy to make , not expensive and taste was GOOD.

This definitely did not look like the picture (what does?).  Picture showed a very saucy mixture-not mine and it really needed some sauce.

I was not crazy about this cookbook and probably would not use it again.

July 2, 2020

I am still using the book from last month.

Page 160. Slow Cooker Sloppy Joe's
I forgot to take picture.  I did not like this recipe at all.  To much Cumin in my opinion.  Luckily I think I can doctor the leftovers to make it palatable.

Page 89 Strawberry Spinach Salad with Warm Bacon Vinaigrette
I liked this but my hubby did not.

Page 91 Rosemary Simple Syrup
Simple to make and tastes quite good.  This was to be used in conjunction with gin and lemon juice and lime juice.  I did not make the drink but I can think of different ways to use this syrup with desserts.

5/30/2020

I am still using Valerie Bertinelli's cookbook-  I really do like this cookbook.

This cake was unfortunately a mess, it stuck to the pan at the allotted cooling time.  This could be a problem that I created as I do not use non-stick spray.  I greased the pan with Crisco.
This is on page 258 and is called Holiday Applesauce Cake.  The taste was Very Good.

This recipe was delicious.
It is on page141 and is called Chicken with Lemon-Wine Sauce.

The third recipe I tried I forgot to take a picture.  It was on page 207 and was called Homemade Baked Potato Tots.  This was good but the recipe says to make them about 1 1/4 inch long and that seemed to be to large to crisp up nicely, at least in my oven it seemed so.

I am still going to make more recipes from this book for the coming month.   (I really like this cookbook)

4/16/2020

Hope everyone is well.

This month I used Valerie's Home Cooking cookbook.
I love this book.  When we open again you should borrow it.

Page 137
Hamburger Helpa
Good but not great in my opinion.  I doctored the leftovers the next day and it was much better.

Page 233
Ricotta Cookies with Sour Cream Glaze
These were yummy.  I might add more lemon rind the next time.

Page 168
Bucatini with Wilted Spinach and Lemon Mascarpone Sauce
Loved this dish.  Be sure and use Pecorino Romano cheese and be generous with it.

Page 36
Breakfast Biscuit Sammie's
We loved these.  Be sure and squish the biscuits so that the egg and cheese don't hang over.  I only had mild sausage on hand but I added crushed red pepper to it.
I warmed up the leftovers the next day and they were not good, so plan on how many you can eat and cut the recipe to fit your family.

March 5, 2020

The Go Red for Women Cookbook

Page 28
Turkish Kale and Potato Borek

This was good, everyone like it but I felt it needed a dipping sauce.  Also, I felt it was to laborious to make.  If I made this again I would make it as a casserole as the side note said on the recipe.

Page 168
Linquine with Eggplant and Cannellini Sauce

This was very good and easy to prepare.  I would break the noodles into small pieces the next time so that it would be easier to scoop up the noodles and vegetables together.

I am not really impressed with this book and probably will not use it again.

Taste of Home
Copy Cat Restaurant Recipes
Page 21
Deluxe Hash Brown Casserole
WOW, absolutely delicious same day and even two days later.  You have to try this.
Page 42
Blueberry Scones
Palatable but nobody got excited about these.  I made some Lemon Blueberry refrigerator jam and that helped tremendously.  Definitely not a recipe I would make again.
Page 256
Sweet and Spicy Asian Meatballs
Very Good but I would only serve these as an appetizer. They really fill you up.

Page 111 Creamy Chicken Gnocchi Soup
Very Good but extremely fattening.  Used a lot of heavy cream
Page 74
Artichoke and Spinach Dip Pizza
Good but I would prefer using my own spinach dip, plain canned artichokes and fresh tomatoes.  I used pre-baked flat bread in place of the pre-baked pizza round.

Moosewood

Page 125
Zucchini Parmesan
All I can say is WOW.  Just as good the next day.  This recipe is a keeper.

Page112
Noodle Kugel
Everyone but me liked this recipe.  I found it very dry and not edible the next day.

Page 98
Mushroom Curry
Good but not worth the work or cost to make

Page 18
Cream of Spinach Soup
Everyone really liked this, I felt that it needed more spice

Page 187
Montana's Mom's Dynamite Cheesecake
WOW this was delicious.  Definitely a keeper!

This is a really nice cookbook and I will use other recipes in it.
